California’s Plastic Surgery Trends for 2020

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeon, the number of surgical, minimally invasive and non-surgical procedures in 2019 has grown for both female and male patients over that observed in 2018 with no indication of slowing down. Advances in technology and patient preference indicate a definite trend in the rise of “tweak-ment” that results in non-disproportionate enhancements, leading to a more natural and healthier appearance after any aesthetic procedure. The trend emphasizes smaller corrections, while remaining true to your natural face and body, as well as treatments at a younger age for preventative managements of aging. The goal is to perform maintenance procedures instead of dismissing concerns until more drastic measures are required.

In California, the era of minimally invasive procedures is here not only because of briefer downtimes, lower costs, and less invasiveness, but also because these procedures exhibit a more subtle change and lower barrier to entry. The results after using injectablesskin resurfacing proceduresmicrodermabrasionmicroneedlinghair stimulation measuresnon-invasive skin tightening and body contouring technologies can be quickly observed. Combined with injectables and fillers, surgical procedures have been also tailored to reduce swelling, staining, pain and distortions. There has been a resurgence of classically gender-related procedures that enhance feminine and masculine features.

In my aesthetic practice, the most popular non-surgical and surgical procedures for men and women reflect the trends that are very similar observed at the national level (2018-2019 Plastic Surgery Statistics Report, American Society of Plastic Surgeons).

The Sasaki Advanced Aesthetic Medical Center is anticipating further demands in meeting our patients’ interests in new, cutting-edge technologies. EmSculpt® has just become available in the USA as the first and only non-invasive muscle and body fat-shaping procedure to simultaneously activate muscle contractions to break down fat and build muscle. EmSella® has also been introduced to tone the pelvic diaphragm to improve urinary incontinence especially with aging and after pregnancies and child-births. These short office procedures are painless and are being investigated with clinical studies. We look forward to their results in 2020.
