Scars can be disfiguring and aesthetically unpleasant. For some of our Pasadena and Los Angeles patients, a scar is a reminder of a traumatic or emotionally disturbing experience. Scars can be painful, itchy or sensitive to touch. In some instances scar contractures can cause functional limitation and disruption of daily activities. Dr. Sasaki offers both surgical and nonsurgical treatments to reduce the appearance and discomfort of scars at his plastic surgery practice in Pasadena.
Your Scar Revision Procedure
There are a variety of surgical and nonsurgical options available to improve the scars to make them narrow, fade, softer or release the scar (subcision) from underlying structures. Dr. Sasaki developed his ISLE technique (Intraoperative Sustained Limited Expansion) by using a small balloon that is placed under the scar, filled with saline to stretch tissues for three minutes to gain more skin, and then approximate the skin edges with minimal tension after scar removal. Dr. Sasaki has published and presented his results at national and international societal meetings and is included in his first book (Tissue Expansion in Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, C.V. Mosby Corp., 1998).
In addition to the ISLE surgical procedure, Dr. Sasaki offers a wide range of techniques that include fat grafting, injection of fillers to smooth the scar’s appearance, to micro-needling-RF with PRP or exosome and laser treatments.
