Top 5 Reasons to Consider a Breast Lift

Top 5 Reasons to Consider a Breast Lift

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a popular cosmetic surgical procedure that creates a more youthful and uplifted breast contour. It can’t change the size of your breasts. However, the surgery can wipe away the effects of aging, remove excess skin after significant weight loss, or correct breast asymmetry.

Our team at Sasaki Advanced Aesthetic Medical Center, led by triple board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gordon Sasaki, is happy to highlight five top reasons for considering a breast lift procedure.

1. Restoring youthful contours and lift

One of the primary motivations for considering a breast lift is to regain a youthful appearance of the breasts. Weight fluctuations, the natural aging process, and pregnancy can cause breasts to sag and lose shape.

Signs that you may benefit from a breast lift include:

During a breast lift, Dr. Sasaki removes excess skin and tightens breast tissue, restoring symmetry while lifting and repositioning the breasts so that the nipples and areolas face forward.

Scarring is minimal, typically hidden within the breast's natural contours, fades over time, and is easily covered by clothing. Thanks to Dr. Sasaki’s surgical skill and experience, you can expect natural-appearing results that suit your overall body shape and contour.

2. Boosting self-confidence

Many women feel self-conscious or unhappy with the appearance of their sagging breasts, leading to a decline in self-esteem. This can be especially detrimental because the cosmetic effects are often the result of factors out of your control, such as changes related to aging or positive life choices like pregnancy, breastfeeding, or healthy weight loss.

On the other hand, by providing a more aesthetically pleasing breast shape, a breast lift can increase your self-confidence and improve your body image, allowing you to feel more comfortable and attractive.

3. Correcting breast asymmetry

Breast asymmetry is a common concern among women, where one breast may be different in shape, size, or position compared to the other. Unfortunately, breast asymmetry may become more noticeable as loss of skin elasticity associated with aging or weight fluctuations worsens.

A breast lift can address this issue by reshaping and repositioning both breasts to create a more balanced and symmetrical appearance. Dr. Sasaki customizes the procedure to meet each individual's specific needs, ensuring a harmonious and proportional outcome.

4. Restoring breast contour following pregnancy

Pregnancy and breastfeeding can significantly impact the appearance of the breasts, resulting in stretched skin and ligaments, lost volume, and sag caused by hormonal changes and fluctuations in weight.

A breast lift can restore pre-pregnancy firmness and lift. However, because a breast lift may interfere with your ability to breastfeed, Dr. Sasaki recommends postponing the procedure if you plan future pregnancies.

Also, a breast lift cannot alter the size of your breasts. Thus, if you desire to increase or decrease your cup size, Dr. Sasaki may recommend a combination procedure that includes breast lift and augmentation or reduction

For issues such as inverted nipples or excessively large areolas, Dr. Sasaki may also suggest a nipple correction surgery, which can be performed alone or combined with other procedures.

5. Improved physical comfort

In addition to its aesthetic benefits, a breast lift can alleviate physical discomfort associated with skin irritation, rashes, and other issues caused by sagging breasts. After breast lift surgery, you may also appreciate improved comfort and fit of swimsuits, bras, and other clothing.
